Legacy system migration without breaking the people who depend on it.
The unloved internal tool, the PHP monolith, the Access database that runs the business. We move it forward carefully, in production, in stages.
Why big-bang rewrites disappoint.
Most of what we ship is not greenfield. Systems that have run a business for years hold knowledge that no document captures, and a full rewrite that starts from a blank page tends to lose it. That is why big-bang rewrites so often overrun and disappoint.
We take a staged approach instead. We map what exists, replace it piece by piece behind the scenes, prove the new version behaves like the old one, and cut over quietly. Users keep working while the ground changes underneath them.
What we migrate and modernize
Legacy application rewrites
Old monoliths in PHP, .NET, Java or other aging stacks, moved to maintainable modern architecture.
Database migrations
From spreadsheets, Access and outdated databases to reliable, structured platforms such as Postgres, with data integrity checks.
Brittle integrations
Fragile file drops, cron jobs and point-to-point connections replaced with documented APIs.
Desktop to web
Older desktop tools rebuilt for the browser when that suits how people work now.
Cloud migration
Moving workloads to AWS, GCP or Azure with sensible cost and reliability design.
Making systems automatable
Adding APIs and clean data so AI automation and reporting become possible.
Signs it is time to modernize
Common reasons teams call us:
- Nobody on the team is comfortable changing the system any more.
- The original developers have left and documentation is thin.
- The stack is out of support or no longer receives security updates.
- Small changes take weeks and often break something else.
- You cannot connect it to newer tools, reporting or AI.
Four steps. No surprises.
Audit
Map what exists today, honestly: code, data, integrations and the unwritten rules.
Strangle
Replace incrementally, not all at once, with the old system running throughout.
Verify
Parity tests and data checks before anyone trusts the new system.
Cut over
Planned, rehearsed and quiet, with a way back if needed.
Frequently asked questions.
What is legacy system migration?
It is moving an ageing application, database or integration onto modern technology while keeping the business running and preserving the data and behaviour that matter.
Why not just rewrite the whole system?
Full rewrites often overrun because the old system contains undocumented rules. A staged approach reduces risk, delivers value earlier and lets the old system keep running until the new one is proven.
Will there be downtime?
The aim is minimal or none. Cut-overs are planned and rehearsed, and we agree acceptable downtime windows in advance.
Can you migrate a system you did not build?
Yes, that is most of our migration work. The first phase is an audit of what exists.
Can you migrate data from Access or spreadsheets?
Yes. We clean, map and load the data into a proper database, and reconcile it against the source before switching over.
